 2021/2022 Programming Announcement

This year we are excited to add some wonderful additions to our already magical programming for our 4/5 year olds!

This last year demanded unprecedented responses from all of us.  As early childhood educators, guides and protectors of children and childhood we were challenged to respond with rigorous thinking around equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging as we move into next year.  Together and separately, the COVID pandemic, worsening climate crisis, tremendous political divide, racial reckoning, and calls for more social activism amplified the importance of our response. And, although this year sharpened our focus, we have been a school grounded in the pursuit of social justice, social responsibility and dignity for all since we began.

This year we asked ourselves, “how can we more fully actualize our mission and what will insure the long life of Cow Hollow School?”  Through research, conversations with current and prospective families, expert consultations,  and  analysis, we have developed a CHS Strategic Plan that incorporates our learnings.  We are confident that our programmatic changes will positively impact our students,  families, and teaching by meeting your requests for a more inclusive Cow Hollow School.  To that end, the CHS Board and administration have made a commitment, over the course of the next 3 years, to move towards a full day program that will be directly in line with our mission to be inclusive and accessible to all. As our current building cannot support a full day program at this time we needed to get innovative and think, literally and figuratively outside of the box, or building, to reach our goal within the next 3 years.

In designing our new and improved programming, the CHS Strategic Plan pillars here act as our lens and our guide.

It is our hope, with the information above, that we provide you with a window in on the rationale and connection to our mission and values that necessitated the programmatic changes.

You see here that some of the changes to hours of the program are minor, while others are more significant.  As this is a change to the programming you may have previously known when you applied, please reach out to Leslie, Admissions Director ([email protected]) if you have any questions and please note that we are committed to making CHS affordable to all through our robust  Community Tuition Fund.

We are excited for these changes and move towards more fully actualizing our long standing mission to be a school for all!

Tours

Learning Tours are required for applicants and are given several times a year.

If you have already submitted an application but have not attended a tour, DO NOT WORRY, your application will still be considered and, should you be offered a spot, we will call you to schedule a separate tour. This year,  our information-sharing Learning Tours will be held virtually. We hope to host in=person Open Houses later in the tour season.

After attending a Learning Tour and submitting an application you will have the opportunity to attend an Open House and virtual “Chats with Darcy”  and “Q and A with Leslie” sessions to find out more about our program. Topics for “Chat’s with Darcy and Leslie” will be:

Inquiry-based Learning

This talk will illuminate the process, the benefits and the joy within learning and teaching through questions, not knowing and the knots in knowing. This is the MAGIC that is CHS!

Relationship Driven Learning and Teaching

To honor the child means to acknowledge, celebrate, and support the child’s relationships to people, to place, to thinking and learning. This talk will reveal the many ways in which all learning at CHS is relationship based.

The Five Senses of a Community: Influence, Usefulness, Belonging, Competence and Respect

This talk will expand upon how, at CHS, the 5 Senses are used as both lens and guide to ensure that each voice is heard, participation and engagement are taught, actualized and learned through authentic and meaningful experiences

Participation and Engagement and Q & A with Leslie

Come chat with Leslie and a CHS Parents’ Association member about the gifts of participation and engagement. Learn more about the Parents’ Association, their committees and different ways to get involved at Cow Hollow School.

This chat will also be an opportunity to ask follow-up questions from your tour!

Community Fund Program

Cow Hollow School is committed to honoring economic diversity and is dedicated to making our school accessible to all families. Through The Community Tuition Fund, our robust tuition assistance program, we are able to provide financial assistance to a broad range of families.  Assistance is based on need, eligibility and availability of funds. Every year we seek to fund 100% percent of applicants. During the 2021-2022 school year, 10.5% of the student body is supported by the CHS Community Tuition Fund, with grants ranging from 10% to 76% of the cost of tuition. Families are encouraged to apply for the Community Tuition Fund (CTF).

Determining eligibility for the Community Tuition Fund is a simple process: submit an online form along with supporting paperwork to our third party administrator, FACTS.  FACTS keeps your information confidential, impartially analyzes the financial information families provide and assesses a recommended family contribution for tuition. Applying for the Community Tuition Fund has no bearing on acceptance to Cow Hollow School. Eligibility and grants accompany offer letters in mid March every year. Applications for the Community Tuition Fund are due February 1, 2022.

Important Dates for Applying for  Community Tuition Fund Applications:

  • January 3, 2022: Application and 2020 tax documents due to FACTS for returning, sibling and legacy families.
  • February 1, 2022: Application and 2020 tax documents due to FACTS for new families applying for the 2022/2023 school year.
  • March 1, 2022: Any application submitted March 1, 2022 and later will require 2021 tax documents.
  • NOTE: If your application was submitted prior to March 1, 2022 FACTS will send you a notification to update your tax documents to include the 2021 tax filings. Your 2021 tax filings are required to confirm your 2022-2023 grant reward.  Grant rewards are subject to change based on information provided in the 2021 tax filings.

It is our goal that Cow Hollow School be accessible to any and all Bay Area families interested in applying.  It is our hope that families will apply to Cow Hollow School regardless of financial circumstances. If you have any questions, please contact Leslie Norris, Admissions Director at [email protected].
